Ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) from a winter excursion to Georgia, Southern Caucasus ecoregion

Abstract In winter 2019, an excursion to the central and eastern parts of Georgia was conducted, focusing on arboreal species other carabids overwintering under bark or at base trunks. Other habitat structures were also investigated. The work done as part ongoing studies in preparation a new checklist Georgian Ground Beetles contribute faunistic well ecological knowledge for main natural areas this country. Forty-three taxa recorded. Dromius agilis (Fabricius, 1787), plant-dwelling Demetrias imperialis (Germar, 1823), Paradromius suturalis (Motschulsky, 1844), another six ( Microlestes corticalis (Dufour, 1820), M. fissuralis (Reitter, 1901), fulvibasis luctuosus Holdhaus Apfelbeck, 1904, Pterostichus leonisi P. strenuus (Panzer, 1796)) are Georgia. some sites, number recorded specimens bark, litter, upper soil very low, probably due specific climatic conditions (e.g., low humidity). It is supposed that these areas, most individuals reside deeper during periods activity hibernation. near stem increased with altitude. relevance special survey methods ground beetles emphasized.
